There are loads of youtube videos online that are sometimes by famous you tubers, this is called gameplay walkthroughs. POSTERS FOR THE GAME AND THE MOVIE: ASSESSMENT: Criticisms:
MY REVIEW: 5/10
The Lego movie video game is good in some ways at it allows at least two players to play at one time maybe even more if you have remotes. There were good visuals as well which were bright and intriguing, especially for little kids whoo play the game. However the game can become boring at some points and can get a bit repetitive. When playing the game you are interested at first and the people who are watching the game and not playing it can get bored too because the game does't look that exciting. The soundtrack is a bit weak as well in comparison to the movie. The game is usually quite crowded and there are quite a few things going on in the background and everywhere, this makes it quite confusing on what to do whilst placing the game, therefore dipping in to boredom. There were also cutaways from the film every once in the while which sometimes prevented us from playing the game. There is however similar music such as the everything is awesome song and although the cutaways to the film disrupt our play sometimes, it does give us insights in to the film and the film and the game intertwine with each other. Connotations/Denotations:What are the main colors used in the poster? What do they connote? (red is a color - it connotes danger and passion). The main colors that are used are blue, orange/red and black. Red connotes fire and blood, so it is associated with energy, war, danger, strength, power, determination. Orange is the mixture of yellow and red and could suggest it is associated with joy. Blue could symbolize trust, loyalty, confidence, intelligence and truth. Also blue represents the color of the sky and the sea (it's vast). Black is associated with power, formality, death, evil, and mystery. the contrast between the blue and the black and red colors could give the contrast of the two sides. Good and Bad. What symbols are used in the poster? Do you need audience foreknowledge to decode the symbols? Some symbols in the poster are in the film and you might need to see the movie before you try to decode these. However there are some symbols in the poster that you don't need foreknowledge for. For example: the wizards torch or crane in the background. What are the main figures/objects/background of the poster? In the poster there are many characters shown. The background is of a city as there are buildings (skyscrapers) and cranes which suggest big building work, re-emphasizing that it is set in the city. There are also flying rockets or futuristic machines and robots which could suggest that the film in set in the future. The protagonists of the movie are shown all in the poster. There is an explosion in the background between all the character which shows the film will be filled with action and could suggest chaos. Emmet, because he is the biggest and the fontal character in the poster, is the main protagonist and the second biggest mini figure in the poster is Lord Business which is the leading antagonist of the film. Also because he is flying above basically everyone in the poster it shows his power and authority. The poster shows a range of different figures ranging form good to bad, which shows that they might all eventually come together and fight one big battle. Some other characters include: Batman, Wyldstyle, Green Lantern, Lord Business, Superwoman, Superman and Vitruvius. Are the messages in the poster primarily visual, text, or both? The messages in the poster are a bit of both however there is sightly more visual than text. The text part of the poster gives us the information that we need to know, such as the release date, that it is 3D and a blurb with studios and characters in. The word 'Assembling'-this is seen as a good message for children because it means getting together as a team and becoming one, which is a good message or good getting together and fighting justice. This will make parents want to bring their children to watch it as there is a good message shown throughout. Also the tag line at the top of the poster gives us a vague idea of what the film might be about. It also gives the audience a memorable phrase to recall when watching the film. In this case the tagline says that one ordinary person ends up saving everyone that needs help. The visual part of the poster includes vibrant colors and the lego mini figures that will be involved . The vibrant colors give a bold statement and it makes the audience want to look at it more as it will be more colorful and interesting for both adults and children. Other visual aspects of the poster include the characters and where it is set which gives us an idea of hat the movie will be about. Who do you think is the intended audience for the poster? The Lego Movie poster is primarily intended for children. The use of colours and recognisable lego characters, makes it more interesting and exciting for kids. Also the word 'Assembling' is seen as a good message for children because it means getting together as a team and becoming one, which is a good message or good getting together and fighting justice. This will make parents want to bring their children to watch it as there is a good message shown throughout. The poster is clearly showing that the movie is an animated film which is what young kids usually go to see. The individual posters also aim at the older generation such as parents or adults because there are recognisable names of funny or well know actors making the older generations want to come and see the film. However the main assemble poster is focused and intended for the younger audience overall. Lego is also a famous kids toy and could attract adults and kids because they played with it when eye we children. Also the lego is a kids toy so children would want to go and see their toys but in a movie! Purpose:What persuasive techniques are used by the poster?
The tag-line and visual content, basically all the conventions of a movie poster, make the poster more eye-catching, therefore hooking the audience and making them want to come and watch the film when it comes out. The explosion in the background is a very persuasive technique that is used to get more audience. This is because the lego characters are running away from the explosion and people would want to know who and why this explosion happened and what the result will be. This is a good persuasive technique shown by the poster. Which genre conventions are referred to? The genre conventions that are refried to are mostly action and adventure based. This is because there is and explosion in the background which suggests some sort of conflict. Also the poster shows the main characters, putting emphasis on Emmet because he is the main protagonist and the biggest character in the poster. Also this is an action movie poster because the characters are running away, and the fact that they are doing this makes us want to now more and why eye are tuning and what from! There is a tag line which is short and memorable and is good as it helps us understand that this is an action based movie. Large title, draws attention. There is indication of when the film will be released too. Is a star used as a USP (Unique Selling Point)? Many famous actors are used as the voices of some of these characters. They are used to create a unique selling point (USP). For example stars like: Will Ferrell and Morgan Freeman play two of the protagonists in the film. They are well knows actors, also some re very humorous which creates a USP for the secondary audience (adults) especially as they would want to come and watch these stars in a children's film (the voices of). The poster and film directs itself to a wide ranged target audience. However the main USP is the actual lego that is used to create the film. Are "expert witnesses" (i.e. critics) quoted? Why/why not? Some critics said that Everything in "The Lego Movie" is, indeed, awesome. However there are no exact quotes on the poster of how the lego movie was. What pleasures (gratifications) are promised by the poster? The lego movie poster suggests that there will be lots of action and adventure, and the poster definitely promises that there will be lots of excitement too. Also other gratifications in the movie that are said to be in there by the poster is that there will be two sides in the story, there will also be one person who saves everyone, which is told to us by the tag line on the poster. It will be released and in the cinemas in February 7th 2014. Also there will be promised many recognisable characters that are well known from lego mini figures and as superheroes. How is attention gained (humour, shock, surprise, familiar face of a star)? The characters are all familiar lego mini figures, and there are also very well knows super heroes too, like Super man and Batman which gains attention form the children. A lot of these characters are voiced by famous actors who are very well known for either being funny or being amazing actors. This attracts more of an adult audience to come and watch the film, which gives a wide range to who is actually watching the Lego Movie. The facial expressions could be attracting as they can be humerus for small children making them want to come and see the film. There is also an explosion in the background and this get the audience wandering how it was caused and by whom, which makes them want to see the movie to see what happens. How does the tagline work? (humour, pun, alliteration etc?) The tag line basically says somebody who was nobody and wan't important in any way manages to save everybody. This can be inspirational to all age groups, especially young kids. Also there is some sort of rhyme in the tag line with nobody and everybody which makes is overall more catchy, and the memorableness of the ta line is emphasised by the shortness of it so it is easier to remember and real while watching the film.
