FOOTBALLERS' WIVES
CLASS Camera work: There is a long shot shoeing the footballer's house which is huge and his two very expensive nice cars. It makes us realise that he is very wealthy and high in class and he likes to show off what great expensive things he owns. There is also a huge fountain again emphasising his wealth. Another long shot that shows all of the cars that the upper class man (other footballer) had, telling us that he is wealthy and has a really relaxed and calm life. The tracking shot when the footballer's arrive at the playing fields show them and their fans. The two guys are represented as loving the fame and their fans. Mise-en-scene: The first footballer and his wife are wearing what looks like very expensive clothes but they look very naff however thats the points to show how wealthy and classy they are. Because both of the footballers have shots showing their huge houses and amazing cars and other features we know very well how they are boasting how rich they are, they are upper class. However the first footballer is wearing a silk shirt and his wife is wearing a really tight red dress and although these outfits look really expensive they do not look classy at all! Editing: When the two footballer's arrive in their expensive cars one of the footballer's stare at this other snobby woman when he already has a wife. This shows that all they care about are the looks of the woman they are with and the woman only care about how rich the ma is or how handsome he is. When the camera shows the football field and the less flashy cars and the footballers arrive in their really expensive cars, it shows the contrast between a lower class life to and upper class life. Through the use of editing and putting shots together the video makes the footballers lives seem all about fame and fortune and that if you are rich you are not always the most classy. Sound: When the 1st footballer gets in his car he puts on this weird music that is a woman saying something, showing how un-classy he is and that he is a womaniser. When the 2 footballer's arrive at the playing fields there are fans screaming and waiting for them and as they arrive there is music in the background that is quite classy which may reflect on how they are not really classy. BLACKPOOL
AGE Camera work: The long shot when everyone is standing up to leave shows the parents on one side of the table and the daughter and Steve on the other side, showing the separation between them both. There are many close ups on the fathers face that show his anger and frustration more clearly and in more depth. At the beginning of the video there is a low angle shot of the two parents waiting to meet their daughters fiancé which may suggest that the parents are superior to them because their daughter and the man are younger compared to them. It also may show that the soon to be couple have to have the parents approval first, again showing that the older people have more control. The low angle shot also shows that the parents must have respect and that they are looked up to by younger people such as their daughter. Mise-en-scene: The parents are wearing more colourful and old fashioned clothes compared to the daughter and her fiancé who are wearing work suits and are a bit more dull. This shows the comparison between the two age groups. The colour contrast definitely emphasises their differences in age. The colour shirt the father is wearing maybe shows how he wants to dress as he always has and wear what he wore in his era. The parents hair styles are very dated ans not very fashionable in the time period they are in at the moment. In comparison the daughter and her fiancées hair styles are more in trend in the time period they are in at the moment. This shows their age differences. Editing: In the beginning shot the parents are shown sitting down i their huge living room and gold fruit and a mini bar are put into shot which suggest their wealth and age. When the parents are talking with their daughter and Steve, there are many short and snappy shots, cross-cutting, between the father and Steve which show the tension in the room between them because of Steve's age and how he's only about 3 years younger that the father. This also tells us how baffled the father is about how old their daughters fiancé is. Sound: Steve, the daughter's fiancé and the daughter are both more humorous that the parents. When the dad first sees Steve there is a moment of silence which is then broken by the clock/time which may show the different ages between the two age groups or that there is no age difference between the father and Steve. Throughout the video there are countless amounts of times where there is complete silence, which emphasises the tension and anger in the room between the two men. The number of questions the father asks Steve are quite big and this shows how the father wants whats best for the daughter and not just and old man the age of the father. COMING DOWN THE MOUNTAIN:
ABILITY/DISABILITY CAMERA WORK: HA shot Colour of 2 beds showing the separation between both of them, half of the room is colourful (Ben's side) and the other half is dull (David's side). Wide shots are used which shows Ben's actions more and the separation between the two of them. MISE-EN-SCENE: Juxtaposition between the two characters (brothers) as Ben is shown as having a very young mental age however David is shown as being bright. There is a scene when they are eating breakfast and Ben is quite deceitful as he takes all of the weetabix and he knew his brother wanted some. We also sympathise with Ben because of his disability. But we also sympathise for David as he has to be a parent to him and give up his time for Ben. We see David at the back of the room, and he still seems to have presence and he was drawing a really good drawing whilst still seeming to be listening to the teacher. This tells us how intelligent he is. EDITING: There are the use of flashbacks whilst they are waiting at the bus stop which shows David's annoyance. This is called montage editing as there is the use of flashbacks of different ways. It helps us see the brothers frustration over several years. There are also animals at the beginning which show that not everyone is the same. There is also prevalence editing on the older brother. SOUND: There is comedic music which shows the irony as the music is happy compared to the anger and sadness of their family. David also uses quite funny language/dialogue towards Ben which gives the video a sense of humour. The voice over of David gives the perspective of the brother (non-diegetic sound) helps us be in the shoes of the brother. We also feel sorry for David for what we hear but sympathise for Ben for what we see. The quote 'Need someone with them all the time' shows innocence and refers to Ben being like a child. On the bus the music changes to a sad and melancholy soundtrack. DOC MARTIN:
REGIONAL IDENTITY (Stereotype of what people are like based on where they are from): CAMERA WORK: There is a chaotic nature shown and it tells us that time doesn't really matter and that everyones is pretty laid back with nothing to do after a job has been finished. There are lots of mid shots used at the start of the video which shows the change from those shots to the lower angle shots looking upwards at Doc Martin which makes him seem in control of everything and everyone. The POV shot and HA shot of the dog tells us that Dr.Martin is in charge of the dog. There are also tracking shots which show he's frantically walking around town and is annoyed with the area he has moved to. MISE-EN-SCENE: There are a lot of old people shown which is a stereotype of Cornish people and they are dressed smartly showing they are a working class but have simpler jobs, like farmers, policemen, gardeners, butchers and bakers. ect. Doc Martin is wearing a suit which makes him seem out of place compared to everyone else who is wearing overalls, boots, ect. It reinforces that he is from London and has a formal personality. There is a lot of rustic scenery which is very old and traditional, its a family community and it is naturally lighted. Doc Martin seems very on edge and anxious and he wants to get things done on time and to good standards. He takes control over things that need to be done and telling people what to do. Dog's have free access to all houses and it feels like a close community as no one really cares about who is where. There is a policeman hovering, showing there isn't much crime in the area. The lady who speaks to Dr Martin is quite posh with her clothing and has an english accent like him. At the beginning of the video the bigger man is sitting down eating a Cornish pasty which is another stereotype of Cornwall. EDITING: There are fast pace shots when it starts getting chaotic at the beginning of the video and then there are longer shots when Doc Martin is in the village, shows things are quieter and calmer that London. The main shots are on Doc Martin and he is the protagonist. It appears that all the people living in Cornwall have never been to London and don't know the chaotic and frantic city life. SOUND: There is comedic music which makes the audience or viewers laugh as it shows how D.Martin can't handle the calm and relaxed life in Cornwall with everything being laid back and unorganised. He is too serious as a Londoner. He has and English accent while the others living in Cornwall have a different accent showing the contrasting accents, maybe telling us again how different their livelihoods are (Cornwall life to City, London life). In the beginning scene the men are talking whilst Doc Martin is quietly tidying and working, again showing how laid back the Cornish are. The quotation 'This happens all the time' implies that they are always dealing with broken pipes and its just an everyday task they do and then relax after doing it. The locals seem to be very talkative and friendly, a close community, compared to D.Martin who is just minding his own business. The beginning scene is very noisy, phoney sound, where there is the dog barking, phone ringing and tap spraying, however it then changes in the next scene to calm and quieter in the village.
